Texas A&M freshman Athing Mu added to her growing list of collegiate records Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational, achieving her first all-time outdoor mark by running a world-leading 1 minute, 57.73 seconds in the 800 meters at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Baylor senior Aaliyah Miller, the reigning NCAA Division 1 indoor 800 champion, ran 2:00.87, the fastest outdoor performance of her career and equal to the No. 18 all-time collegiate competitor. Miller won the indoor title March 13 by clocking 2:00.69, making her equal to the second-fastest Division 1 indoor performer in history, trailing only Mu and matching the 2017 effort of former Texas A&M standout Jazmine Fray.

Mu set the collegiate indoor 800 record Feb. 27 at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships by running 1:58.40 at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Mu, 18, also eclipsed the American Under-20 all-time outdoor mark of 1:58.21 set in 2013 by Ajee’ Wilson when she placed fifth at age 19 at the World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Mu elevated to the No. 9 World U-20 outdoor competitor in history, achieving the best time globally by a teenager since 2014.

She also ascended to the No. 10 all-time American outdoor competitor and became the 18th female athlete from the U.S. to run sub-1:58 in her career.

Former Oregon standout and Bowerman Award winner Raevyn Rogers achieved the previous collegiate outdoor 800 record by clocking 1:59.10 at the 2017 Mt. SAC Relays at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif.

Tennessee graduate Phoebe Wright had run the fastest outdoor 800 by a collegiate athlete at any time of the year with her 1:58.22 at the 2010 Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The former facility record was 2:00.72, achieved in 2016 by Oregon graduate, Bowerman Award winner and five-time Division 1 champion Laura Roesler.
